Proactive Dentistry

Protect your smile with proactive care at Vigee Dental. Our preventative dentistry focuses on early detection and simple, effective treatments that stop small issues from becoming major problems. At every visit, we assess your overall oral health, screen for signs of oral cancer, and address tooth sensitivity with targeted solutions—so you stay comfortable, confident, and cavity free.

Why Preventative Care Matters

  • Finds problems early when they’re easiest to treat

  • Reduces your risk of gum disease, cavities, and tooth loss

  • Supports fresher breath and long-term comfort

  • Helps safeguard overall health with routine screenings and advice

Oral Cancer Screening

Oral cancer is most treatable when found early. Your dentist and hygienist perform a quick, painless screening that includes a visual check of the lips, cheeks, tongue, palate, and throat, plus gentle palpation of the jawline and neck. We document any sores, color changes, or areas that don’t heal and, if needed, recommend photos, a short-term review visit, or referral for a biopsy. Risk factors include tobacco, alcohol, HPV, frequent sun exposure to the lips, and a history of irregular lesions.

What to expect at your dental exam.

I

Before You Arrive
Complete new patient forms and medical history online or arrive a few minutes early. Bring a list of medications and any dental appliances (retainer, nightguard). If you have sensitivity, avoid very hot or cold drinks right before your appointment.

II

Check-In & Conversation
We review your medical history, discuss any recent changes (like sores, lumps, or sensitivity), and outline what will happen so you know what to expect and why.

III

Oral Cancer Screening
Quick, painless visual exam of lips, cheeks, tongue, palate, and throat, with gentle palpation under the jaw and along the neck to check for lumps or tenderness. If we see anything unusual, we document it and discuss next steps.

IV

Sensitivity Assessment
Targeted tests help locate sensitive teeth and identify causes such as recession, wear, or bite issues. We may briefly use air or cold to confirm the source, stopping as soon as we find it.

V

X-Rays Only If Needed
Taken based on your risk level and history to check for hidden decay, bone levels, or cracks. We review all findings with you in plain language.

VI

Personalized Prevention Plan
Clear recommendations may include fluoride varnish, desensitizing agents, sensitive toothpaste, nightguard therapy, or small repairs if indicated. We provide product and technique coaching for brushing, flossing, and diet.

VII

Comfort Options Throughout
Topical numbing for tender areas is available on request. Take short breaks anytime—just raise your hand.

VIII

Timing & Frequency
Most preventative visits take about 30–60 minutes. Recall intervals are tailored to you—typically every 6 months, or every 3–4 months for higher-risk patients.

IX

Fees & Insurance
We provide estimates before any additional procedures and supply itemized receipts for insurance when applicable.

X

After Your Visit
If fluoride was applied, avoid eating or drinking for 30 minutes. You’ll leave with a simple at-home plan and any follow-up scheduled to monitor a spot or continue sensitivity care.

Tooth Sensitivity Treatment

That sharp “zing” with cold, sweet, or touch often means exposed dentin, enamel wear, gum recession, micro-cracks, or clenching. We start by finding the cause, then tailor treatment, which may include:

  • Fluoride varnish or in-office desensitizers to seal open tubules

  • Prescription-strength sensitive toothpaste for daily home use

  • Bonding to cover exposed root surfaces or worn enamel

  • Nightguard therapy for clenching and grinding

  • Bite adjustments for high spots or heavy contacts

  • Repairing decay or replacing leaking fillings where needed

  • Periodontal care or specialist referral if recession is advanced

Most patients notice improvement within days to weeks once the cause is addressed and home care is consistent.
